You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Salary Range: GS-11: $72,731 - $94,551 Per Annum GS-12: $87,178 - $113,327 Per Annum

Duties

You will provide day-today environmental compliance and oversight on various media (i.e., air, water, hazardous waste, etc.). You will manage installation aspects of environmental plans and permits, by ensuring compliance with permits issued by local, State, and Federal regulatory agencies. You will coordinate environmental program inspections to ensure compliance with applicable Navy, State, Federal, and local regulatory regulations and policies. You will provide technical expertise in resolving compliance issues with regulators.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.

Qualifications

FOR THE GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting program management with planning, development, and implementation of environmental compliance for one or more environmental compliance related fields such as National Environmental Policy Act/environmental planning; Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response; 2) Assisting in ensuring compliance with environmental laws; 3) Performing field visits to conduct environmental inspections, site investigations, and surveys to determine environmental compliance requirement; and 4) Assisting in preparing draft correspondence, technical reports, field logs, inspection reports, and other supporting environmental documentation. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.** FOR THE GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge and understanding of one or more environmental compliance related fields such as National Environmental Policy Act/environmental planning; Air Quality; Water Quality; Hazardous Waste; Pollution Prevention; Solid Waste Management/Recycling; and spill response; 2) Reviewing environmental standards, specifications, and plans of projects and collaborates with planners and designers in order to ensure compliance with environmental requirements; 3) Conducting site investigations, audits, and surveys and collaborates with customers and other organizations to resolve environmental compliance concerns; 4) Participating in discussions with environmental regulatory agencies regarding interpretation and applicability of compliance requirements; and 5) Gathering and submitting technical information in support of data calls, taskers, environmental submissions, and reports in assessing program effectiveness. **NOTE: This experience must be fully and clearly supported in your resume.** Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Education

FOR THE GS-11:

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree;

OR

Successful completion of 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree;

OR

OR

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
