National Defense University (NDU) supports the joint warfighter by providing rigorous Joint Professional Military Education to members of the U.S. Armed Forces and select others in order to develop leaders who have the ability to operate and creatively think in an unpredictable and complex world. This is a Title 10 Excepted Service Appointment. Appointment is not to exceed 3 years with the possibility for extension.

Duties

The Associate Dean for Joint Warfighting is an essential member of the CIC faculty and leadership team and serves as the principal advisor to the Dean of Faculty and Academic Programs with responsibility for facilitating high quality joint warfighting curricular content and integration across the college. The Associate Dean for Joint Warfighting serves as the College's focal point for academic planning, curriculum development, and oversight of the execution of CIC's JPME programs. MAJOR DUTIES: Curriculum and Academic Oversight (40%): Oversee instruction and academic content of curricular components and coordinate curricular organization and delivery of the JPME curriculum, ensuring adherence to academic policies and professional standards. Use quality monitoring and reporting matrices to improve programs. Analyze class and program needs of the College; recommend the retention, deletion, or modification of courses to the Dean of Faculty. Develop and coordinate program and course schedules, faculty assignments and assessment schedules. Collaborate with others on faculty professional development. Develop, implement, and advise on academic policies and procedures. Ensures dissemination of programmatic updates through work with the Office of Student Services and other College personnel. Attend professional development events as appropriate in higher education instruction and curriculum development. Academic Strategic Planning (20%): Collaborate with CIC leaders to lead the college in creating a vision of the college's future state and develop and evaluate a strategic plan that will act as a road map toward that goal. Collaborates with the CIC leadership to manage size and composition and recommend annual enrollment targets for the academic programs. Serve as a liaison with Dean direct reports, faculty, and administrators to implement the Dean's agenda. Cultivate relationships to move the strategic direction of the college forward. Assessment and Accreditation (20%): Provide administrative leadership to the college in JPME program assessment and accreditation in collaboration with College leadership and the Director of Institutional Research. Plan, execute, and report the assessment of the college's academic curricula, programs, and strategic plans to the Dean. Oversee the planning, data acquisition/analysis, and writing of reports on the quality of JPME programs for maintaining Joint Professional Accreditation and regional accreditation with Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Teaching (20%) Instruct core and elective graduate-level courses for senior leaders enrolled in a senior-level course of study. Maintain academic currency through rigorous scholarship. Mentor students and assess their academic and professional performance. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must be able and willing to travel both domestically and internationally. Travel is seldom required. Less than 20 % of the time.
  • The incumbent must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCi clearance.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: U.S. citizen Possess an earned doctoral degree or other equivalent terminal degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent,). CIC curriculum-related area of study is preferred. Experience in the fields of cyber operations or cyber strategy is strongly preferred. Demonstrated progressive professional and academic experience in a relevant area with strong leadership potential and a record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service contributions. Demonstrated and successful record of leadership achievements and innovation in higher education or military equivalent. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Leadership experience in either Joint Professional Military Education, Federal government, or a national security related institution or industry. Working familiarity with the CIC mission and academic programs. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills, and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Education Requirement: An earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education (or international equivalent).
