About the Position: This position leads the Facilities Support Division in the Directorate of Base Operations at Tooele Army Depot, leading employees performing the following duties: Carpentry, Pipefitting/Plumbing, Electrical, Sheetmetal, Cement Finishing, Painting, and Engineering Equipment Operator.
Duties
Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Determine how many assignments can be done concurrently, which ones must be delayed, the number and types of employees needed, considering skills, personnel, materials, and equipment available and required.
Explain work requirements, methods, procedures, and instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise.
Install, maintain and repair electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels, and outlet boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools and appliances.
Tend, repair, maintain and service several pressure boilers, water heaters, heating systems and related heating equipment at several different locations.
Perform duties in the following trades such as refrigeration and air conditioning, sheetmetal/welding, heating, and electronics sufficient to analyze problems and make repairs.
Provides instruction, oversight and performs welding, Intrusion detection systems (IDS), Carpentry, painting, heavy mobile equipment operation.
Perform repairs on demilitarization furnace, pull-apart machines (SPAM), rollers, bearings, and conveyors.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must be able to obtain a government operators permit to operate vehicles and equipment to accomplish the shops mission.
- Must be placed on a call list and required to be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations, or make emergency repairs.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Occasionally required to work with and around asbestos materials. Asbestos removal training will be provided and pre-placement, annual and termination medical examinations are required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): The ability to work as the lead in a group or team demonstrating and performing the following duties: installing and/or repairing pipefitting and plumbing systems, installing, maintaining, and repairing electric wiring systems, and electrical fixtures. Testing circuits and equipment using a voltmeter, ampmeter, wattmeter, megger, and/or ohmmeter.- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The Maintenance Mechanic frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weighs up to 50 pounds. Occasionally, may lift and carry items weighing over 50 pounds.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Outside exposure to heat and cold can be protected against by proper clothing. Inside work is usually in buildings adequately heated, lighted and ventilated. Noise from hammers, saws and other power shop tools is frequent. There is dust, and sometimes dirt, when repairing structures and operating power saws. Occasionally, required to wear heavy and uncomfortable protective clothing.
