About the Position: Serves as first line supervisor over a Facility Maintenance Branch, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations involving approximately 15 involved in the repair of high pressure boiler systems, industrial refrigerated systems, high voltage and low voltage electrical systems, complex piping systems, and plumbing and carpentry maintenance duties.
Duties
Holds daily huddles and weekly safety meetings for the purpose of instructing and training subordinates in safe working methods and practices.
Plans daily, weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for, subordinates.
Establishes deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules and methods and policies established by higher levels of supervision.
Recommends the contracting of jobs when work can be done more quickly or economically by commercial organizations.
Explains work requirements, methods, and procedures; instructs subordinates in new procedures; and provides advice when problems arise.
Initiates personnel actions and interviews and selects candidates for appointments, promotions, or reassignments.
Utilizes the Facilities Equipment Maintenance System (FEM) and works directly with the Maintenance Planner to plan and assign work to subordinates and determine work schedules, deadlines, and priorities.
Develops performance standards and evaluates performance by providing feedback and completing formal performance appraisals.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Employee is required to have his/her name on a call out list and be called back to work during non-duty hours (including weekends) to support emergency situations or make emergency repairs.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to supervise the performance of common maintenance mechanic duties demonstrated by experience performing the following journeyman duties: installing and/or repairing pipefitting and plumbing systems. Installing, maintaining, and repairing electric wiring systems, and electrical fixtures. Testing circuits and equipment using a voltmeter, ampmeter, wattmeter, megger, and/or ohmmeter. Performing carpentry work on construction projects using blueprints and/or sketches. Operating one or more types of construction equipment such as backhoes, front-end loaders, and/or dump trucks - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Work on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where systems and equipment are located. Works in hard to reach places, stands, stoops, bends, kneels, climbs, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently handles, lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 45 pounds in the performance of assigned duties. Occasionally lifts and carries items that weigh over 45 pounds with assistance.
Working Conditions: Works inside or outside; and subject to heat, cold, and inclement weather. Exposed to dirt, grease, noise, odor, smoke, and fumes. Frequently exposed to the possibility of strains, cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, and electrical shock. Working conditions are considered in the evaluation of this job.
