About the Position: At the target grade, this position will work alongside other workers setting the pace in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic sensing and control systems.

Duties

This is a developmental position being filled at the WG-08, 10, or 12 levels. The full performance WG-12 entails the following duties: Perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration of electronic motor controls, variable frequency drives, reduced voltage starters, and indicating and recording systems used on industrial machinery or engines. Perform installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic digital computers and peripheral equipment, such as computers and programmable logic controllers used for programming and diagnostics of equipment and complex integrated systems. Perform evaluation of complex electronic systems, solve engineering problems of site selection, systems integration, and modify equipment to adapt to novel site characteristics. Operate test equipment to identify, isolate, and determine malfunctions. Analyze and determine recovery techniques to identify and correct errors.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is subject to an initial drug screening, and random testing thereafter. A negative drug test result must be received by human resources within 30 calendar days after the Entrance on Duty (i.e., start date).

  • For the WG-12 level, this position requires you to possess Math Overview Certificate, Circuits II Certificate, and Electronic Control Devices Certificate from OSU Institute of Technology, System Engineering Industrial Maintenance Training Program.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-10: Ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common repair, align, and troubleshoot electronic sensing and control systems; operate common hand tools, and solder iron; diagnose nature and extent of equipment malfunction; and replace defective components, wiring, and adjusting mechanical parts to troubleshoot and conduct repairs. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-11: Ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic sensing and control systems; apply electronic theories and circuits applicable to power, timing, motion control, indicating devices, and pulse and counting mechanisms to isolate malfunctions of integrated system consisting of optical, infrared, electrical, cryogenics, and pneumatic units. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-12: Ability to do the work of an Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common installation, maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, and inspection of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electronic sensing and control systems and applying electronic theories and circuits applicable to power, timing, motion control, indicating devices, and pulse and counting mechanisms to isolate malfunctions of integrated system consisting of optical, infrared, electrical, cryogenics, and pneumatic units. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ingenuity (Ability To Suggest and Apply New Methods)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTrouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Physical Efforts: Work requires you to apply light to moderate physical exertion while lifting and carrying items weighing from 10 to 40 pounds. Requires stooping, bending, and standing for extended periods of time on concrete or composition floors. Work Conditions: This position requires work predominately performed inside in a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated shop environment. You are subject to injuries such as cuts and bruises as well as burns caused by electrical shock. Duties are performed while exposed to unusually hazardous agents for 35-75 percent of total work cycle. Hazardous exposure working conditions are not considered in the evaluation of the job, since environmental pay is provided to compensate for the hazard elements if applicable.
