You will serve as an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST (CUSTOMER SUPPORT) in SYSTEMS OPERATIONS; INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT of SUPERVISOR OF SHIPBUILDING GROTON.

Duties

You will provide Electronic Help Desk customer support on all command information technology issues; ensuring expedient resolution and tracking and providing users with status and information about the final resolution. You will provide user support for computer systems and software by troubleshooting, debugging, upgrading, and problem solving for the standard/non-standard computer hardware and software on both stand-alone and networked systems. You will provide users with a basic understanding of the hardware and software used in the performance of their jobs, so they may work efficiently without undue interruption. You will open new orders, modify existing orders, assign new services, remove services, and modify existing services within the Managed Services environment. You will serve as the focal point for all new services including receipt and distribution of all items ordered and will track the delivery of the product or service and ensure proper installation, setup and functionality. You will document customer requirements and research, identify, and suggest solutions to resolving customer IT issues. You will control command IT resources and equipment that meets property control requirements including hardware and software and will be responsible for the receipt, distribution, inventory and management of assets from cradle to grave.

Requirements

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Employee may be called in afterhours on an as-needed basis.
  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to participate annually in a minimum of 20 hours of continuous learning (CL) program as described in SECNAVINST 5239.20A and SECNAV M-5239.2.

Qualifications

FOR GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing diagnostic analyses of software and hardware related system issues to ensure corrective action to meet system performance and capacity requirements. Your experience at either grade level must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. FOR GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector providing diagnostic support for software and hardware related systems to ensure IT user products meet current and future business or user needs. Your experience at either grade level must reflect skill in the following areas: attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem solving. Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

FOR GS-11:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management;
-OR-
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.

FOR GS-09:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management;
-OR-
Two full years of progressively higher graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management.
