THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to function as a technical specialist on issues relating to the wide area network (WAN) and local area network (LAN) systems and their integration in the network. The work involves network administration, optimization and performance in support of the supports the state's wide area command and control integrated network. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs a variety of network device configuration and connectivity tasks. Executes procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Implements the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Uses remote management software tools to maintain and update configuration, protocol and user/system files. Documents and tracks change to configuration, protocol and user/system files. Serves as the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO) for the TASMG.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience, education, or training in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of, and skill in applying network design principles and concepts, network architecture principles and concepts, network protocols, remote access technology concepts, network operation and maintenance concepts and methods, network management tools, configuration management concepts and practices, network topology concepts, LAN/WAN principles and methods, network optimization techniques and acquisition management policies. Skill in configuring hubs and switches, monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns and installing network software fixes and upgrades. Skill in establishing connectivity between remote sites, creating network maps, troubleshooting network problems (outages) and implementing configuration management plans for complex LANs and WANs. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Appointment): Enlisted: E-4 through E-9 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation within the state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: This position is covered under the Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program and requires Information Assurance (IA) Technical Level II Certification. IA Baseline Certification is required within 6 months of assignment to the position. Employee will be required to maintain certification status and complete continuous education or sustainment training as required by certification. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may results in removal from this position.
