This position is located in the Building Maintenance shop for the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering, Phoenix VA Health Care System.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Responsible for maintenance and repair of the total lock system. Maintain master key records and generate master key systems for each type of locking encountered Service and change combinations on safes and vaults Maintain security and locks for narcotic storage and medication storage Install and maintain window and door lock mechanisms Inspect, repair and install all types and functions of locks throughout the medical center Remove foreign objects from locks Pick or otherwise defeat or bypass locks when keys are lost or locks are inoperable Determine the application for installing and maintaining electronic locks and keying devices Other related duties as assigned Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Recruitment & Relocation Incentives: Recruitment Incentives approved Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Not approved

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Most of the work performed requires considerable standing, stooping, walking, kneeling, etc. When repairing and repining locks, eye-to-hand concentration is required and there is possibility of eye-strain because it is close work. Considerable physical effort is expended when handling doors, moving and installing hardware, etc. This position is required to carry and work from 4ft. and 6ft. ladders. Work is performed inside and outside. While working outside, this position is subject to all kinds of weather. Inside work may be in heated or unheated buildings. Subject to cuts, burns, bruises, etc., while working with power equipment, installing hardware, cutting keys, etc. Protective safety gear must be worn and safety practices must be followed at all times because of the prevailing hazards Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications. For this position, the job element method is used to match what you, the applicant, can do against what the work calls for. Your knowledge, skills and abilities will be compared to the knowledge, skills and abilities (called job elements) needed for success. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element (WG-2 and higher only; screen-outs are not applicable to WG-1). Applicants who appear to meet the screen out element are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated from consideration. The potential eligibles are rated against the remainder of the job elements. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
