Duties

Certify assigned systems and sub-systems to ensure compliance with USAF, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) established standards and safety requirements. Determine when equipment malfunctions warrant shutdown of various systems. Provide technical guidance, training and assistance to other technicians and conducts on the job (OJT) training to apprentices in all phases of work. Utilizing safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions, to include the Industrial Engineering Technical Series 0895 IOR. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-09, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes working as a technician, instructor, inspector or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions provided the work clear. It shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. NOTE: Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-09 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of electronic principles and practices, operating parameters, capabilities, and limitations of electronic systems associated with air traffic control and weather, radar equipment, and of systems and component design capabilities, configurations, limitations, and functional operation, and of various types of electronics logics. Knowledge of safety regulations, procedures and practices. Skill in the interpretation of technical data such as drawings, schematics, blueprints, and specifications of complete electronic systems, and analyzing problems in integrated interfacing systems involving numerous complex circuits, and in using complex electronic and electromechanical tests and measuring equipment using integrated test functions for different purposes. Ability to modify standard procedures, adapt equipment or techniques, and make departures from previous approaches to solve technical problems or improve system performance for highly complex electronic systems, to trace electronics logic from one system to another, and to establish and maintain effective working relationships to represent the organization in a professional manner. Ability to use computer terminals to determine and extract data to maintain records and document actions. Physical Demands Work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, rocky or slippery surfaces, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, climbing, or similar activities. Recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 lbs. And or regular visits to outdoor sites. Work Environment Work involves regular and reoccurring exposure to moderate risks and discomforts such as dust, strong odors or fumes from fuels, chemicals or engine exhaust, high levels of noise and vibration, dust, grease, electrical hazards, uncovered moving parts of machinery, moving machinery, or outdoor conditions involving moderate exposure to rain. Cold, hot weather, icy streams and rivers. The work environment requires the employee to stay alert continually and to take special safety precautions, including wearing special protective items of clothing. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
