The primary purpose of this position is to ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN, NJ-0856-04, is to serve as an electronics technician subject matter expert responsible for design, development, repair, production, and documentation of software/hardware products for automatic testing and support equipment used to evaluate the technical operation of components, equipment, and/or systems.

Duties

Perform technical electronics tasks pertaining to the development or maintenance of Air Force weapon systems and/or support equipment. Support the testing requirements of current and future weapon systems, employee develops, fields, and sustains test/support equipment. Evaluate and recommend procedures and innovative techniques and methods to achieve goals. Serve as the principle technical contact with engineering, systems program office, and contractor representatives and coordinates, as required, to resolve technical problems and issues.

Qualifications

Experience requirements are described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, TECHNICAL AND MEDICAL SUPPORT POSITIONS, to include the Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for the GS-0856, Electronics Technical Series. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Performing work involving applying knowledge of the techniques and theories characteristic of electronics, such as a knowledge of basic electricity and electronic theory, algebra, and elementary physics. Knowledge of electronic equipment design, development, evaluation, testing, installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, operations, design, characteristics, and functional use of a variety of types and models of electronic equipment and systems related to, but less than, a full professional knowledge of electronic engineering. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at the next lower broadband, NJ-03 equivalent to the next lower grade GS-11, or equivalent in other pay systems. An example of creditable specialized experience includes work as a technician, instructor, inspector, or mechanic (civilian or military) that showed progression in theoretical and practical knowledge of electronic theory, and of the characteristics, function, operation, and capabilities of a variety of types of electronic equipment. This experience must have included the use of schematic diagrams, a variety of test equipment, and the application of appropriate electronic formulas involved in such duties as testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, developing, and instructing on electronic equipment, or similar functions. Experience in developing policies, standards, and procedures for maintenance, installation, or similar functions, provided the work clearly shows that the applicant applied a specialized knowledge of the theories and principles of a variety of electronic systems or equipment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of electronics concepts, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply electronics principles and concepts to project development and execution. Knowledge of integrated air-vehicles, ground systems, and support equipment sufficient to plan, design, test, troubleshoot, and develop and/m sustain electronic systems or devices. Knowledge of electronics as it pertains to the design, development, and documentation of hardware/software products for automatic testing and support equipment, practices, and procedures. Ability to analyze data and establish requirements for technical objectives and characteristics. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work effectively with peers, management, contractors, and other agencies. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
