This position serves as the Medical Support Assistant for the Pharmacy Branch, Division of Clinical Services, Tohatchi Health Center, and Tohatchi, NM. Provides technical support to the Pharmacy department who is responsible for the total coordination of services involving the hospital's overall pharmacy services/program.

Duties

Performs customer services by greeting patients and visitors courteously, answering inquiries or request, and directing them to the appropriate staff, room or department in a timely fashion so as to minimize wait time. Assists with delivery of prescriptions to patients. Checks in patients using automated system. Determining prescription status to be able to enter patients in appropriate place for processing. Receives telephone calls and directs the calls to the appropriate party if unable to resolve the callers issue. Interviews patients and obtains sufficient information necessary to determine primary need. Provides assistance or makes referrals if necessary to appropriate personnel when matter is outside of employee's scope of assignment. Occasionally called upon to interpret/translate for patients, nurses, and providers. May act as the chaperone and escort for patients. Assists patients in contacting patient care services. Initiates appropriate form on each patient who is in need of medication. Stocks and maintains patient education material at appropriate levels. Ensure appropriate forms and quantities available for patient and pharmacy staff use.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-05: applicants must have successfully completed 4 years above high school leading to a Bachelor degree in any field. -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Performing clerical support in a clinic setting, reception duties, record- keeping, scheduling appointments, key- entering and retrieving patient data. Knowledge of medical, technical and special terminology. Coordinating with patient registration, alternate resources, contract health and patient related data management systems. Use of different automated systems (i.e. electronic health records, computers, fax, copiers and word processing systems). Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-05. GS-05 only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester ours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable for GS-05. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter boxes, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
