This position is located in the Patient Registration-Admission or Pre-Certification sections of the Business Office Branch at the Tohatchi Health Center in Tohatchi, NM. The primary purpose is to provide registration, admission, pre-certification and eligibility services which are the key points of interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for alternate resources, contract health services and private insurance.
Duties
Interviews all patients and obtains signatures for Medicare/Medicaid and Private Insurance patients for reimbursements purposes and data entry into the Patient Registration System.
Interview patients to obtain pertinent patient registration information; i.e. demographic and insurance information and authorization to enable the Service Unit to bill for health care services provided from all alternate resources including the non-beneficiary services.
Assists patients in completing new or updated forms, Determines the eligibility of patients seeking health care who have not previously been treated at the facility. Identifies and pre-certifies those patients whose health benefits are subject to prior approval to determine the extent of health care for both inpatient and outpatient.
Maintains, key-enters, updates and verifies all alternate resources data necessary for patient registration and for accurate billing through the use of the RPMS Patient Registration System and electronic eligibility system.
Interviews patient to obtain information to initiate a new health record and communicates to Medical Records to reactive a retired/stored record.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-05: Successfully complete 4 years above High School leading to a Bachelor's degree -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Interviewing patients to gather information, entering patient data into an automated patient registration system, assisting patients in completing forms, reviewing documents for accuracy, explaining processes and policies to patients, initiating health records and admission forms.
Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below.
For GS-5 level positions, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
