This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for STRL Mission Support Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The Chemical Biological Center (CBC) is the nation's principal research and development resource for non-medical chemical and biological defense.
Duties
Assist the senior technician in performing a variety of production/quality/ manufacturing duties associated with the design, development, testing and integration of rapid development prototype systems.
Participate in program meetings, field activities, and customer interface.
Support project leader in prototype development, quality assurance planning, or manufacturing for urgent need projects.
Participate in meetings and design reviews with contractor and Government personnel to discuss the technical aspects of the design to ensure the early design influence for production, quality acceptance, and manufacturing.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Secret Security Clearance required.
- Business travel (TDY) may be required up to 25% of the time.
- Position requires random drug testing and medical evaluation IAW AR 50-1 and/or AR 50-6.
- This position requires recurring lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds such as testing or measuring equipment.
- Pre-employment physical required.
- One year trial period may be required.
- This position requires the incumbent to work under extreme outdoor weather conditions, exposure to rain and temperatures exceeding 100F and below 40F, performs work in impermeable PPE in temperatures that could exceed 80F.
- Required to wear special protective clothing and using protective equipment.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Conducting a variety of complex and conventional production/quality/ manufacturing projects associated with projects in the design, development, testing and application of Chemical Biological defense prototype systems; AND 2) Contributing to establishing project requirements and optimum solutions; AND 3) Assisting in prioritizing and balancing cost, schedule, and performance to meet the warfighter's needs and project objectives. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level/position in the federal service (GS-10).
