Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations (OPO), allows you to serve as a Lead Investigative Protection Officer. This position supports an integrated protective and investigative mission(s) which plans, directs, coordinates, and implements domestic and international protective and investigative policies, programs and operations of the Secret Service.  Administratively Uncontrollable Overtime is additional compensation which may be paid up to 25% of the base salary.  

Duties

This Lead Investigative Protection Officer position starts at $94,473 (GS-12, Step-1), with potential to $122,811 (GS-12, Step-10). For more information on the Secret Service click here.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Possess a Top-Secret Clearance
  • Possess a current valid driver's license and maintain during employment.
  • Maintain a Top Secret Clearance during your career.
  • Carry and use a firearm. Maintaining firearm proficiency is also mandatory.
  • Submit to random drug testing while you occupy the position.

Qualifications

GS-12: To qualify for the grade GS-12 level you must possess one year of specialized experience at the grade GS-11 level performing duties such as: providing guidance and direction to team members; assigning and monitoring work performance; implementing protective instructions and procedures; planning logistics for protective services and transportation; covering a designated security post; preparing reports and presentations to senior level management on protective services and investigation activities and providing technical advice and guidance regarding protection and law enforcement operations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Time-in-Grade Requirement: Current Federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service on a non-temporary appointment.  Applicants must provide a copy of their SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action), that should include their position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). You may need to submit more than one SF-50 to comply.
