Duties
Collect and record natural resource and ecological data; manage natural resource and ecological monitoring data; ensure proper data collection.
Provide technical assistance for study designs, data analysis, and reporting.
Draft natural resource and/or ecological surveys, data analysis, and reports to assess both the condition and trend of natural resources.
Apply technical knowledge of conventional sampling and spatial statistics in natural resource surveys, studies, data collection, analysis, and reporting.
Draft and review common natural resource and ecological monitoring information; provide support and assistance for all resource programs.
Participate in monitoring activities and assist with, direct, and or oversee monitoring crews.
Utilize judgment in researching, selecting, and applying guidelines and information.

Qualifications

This position has a Basic Education Requirement:
Degree: Biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
At the GS-05 Level: Meet the basic education requirements.
At the GS-07 Level: Meet the basic requirements AND one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the federal service. Specialized experience may include use of natural resources principles on projects relating to land use, experience with compliance with public land laws and policies (e.g., the National Environmental Policy Act, Endangered Species Act), working as a member of an interdisciplinary team, reviewing plans to develop reports and summarize data, prepare analysis, consultation, and managing natural resources projects; OR meet the basic educational requirements AND graduated from a four year college with Superior Academic Achievement (S.A.A.) OR meet the basic requirement AND completed one (1) year of graduate education leading to a master`s degree in biological sciences or a directly related field. OR meet the basic requirement AND an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
At the GS-09 Level: Meet the basic education requirement AND one year of professional natural resource management specialist experience equivalent to GS-7 in the Federal service. Examples of specialized experience may include: 1) Experience with range plant identification and monitoring to aid in treatment/utilization plans. 2) Experience as part of a monitoring crew utilizing inventory methods. 3) Experience completing noxious weed or other vegetation treatment and inventory; OR meet the basic requirement AND completed two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master`s degree or master's equivalent graduate degree in biological sciences or a directly related field; OR meet the basic requirement AND an equivalent combination of the type and level of experience and education described above.
Superior Academic Achievement (See OPM's General Policies, Application of Qualification Standards Section 4.f.) S.A.A. must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.
Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate undergraduate/graduate education. Undergraduate/graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position..

Physical Demands: The work is typically performed in an office setting with no special physical demands. However, work is also performed in the field which involves periods of walking, bending, climbing, or driving motor vehicles to worksites. Field work routinely requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing or walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces or mountainous terrain; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, and/or reaching; using hand tools such as shovels, trowels, or screening devices; and lifting of moderately heavy items such as equipment and samples. The work may also involve some overnight travel for training, meetings, and site visits.
Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office setting. However, work time is also spent visiting field sites. Field site visits are typically performed in an outdoor setting subject to weather changes, diverse terrain, and/or involve safety hazards associated with working around complex features and/or construction. Both settings may require the use of personal protective equipment. Safety precautions and protocols are observed at all times and the incumbent complies with safety instructions and regulations and ensures individual and others' safety by promptly reporting unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and accidents to the supervisor.
Education
This position falls under the General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) which requires that you have a degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, or a combination of education and experience---courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
This position has a positive education requirement (see qualification section for education requirements). You MUST submit a copy of ALL your college transcripts or a list of ALL college courses that include hours and grades from an accredited U.S. college/university. Upon selection, official transcripts must be received prior to appointment. If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
