Duties

Serves as an Inmate Classification & Computation Technician located within the Designations and Sentence Computation Center (DSCC) for the Federal Bureau of Prisons. Responsible for Judgment & Commitment files, sentence computations, release audits of computations, computation case audits, security and control of records, and initial inmate classifications for designations. Collects all necessary information from the US District Court, US Marshal Service and US Probation Office, or other authorities needed to request and provide designation and compute inmates’ sentences. Serves as a subject matter expert, assisting institution staff with responses to questions and interpretations of status and case law within their respective field.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: EducationSuccessfully completed 4 years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.OR Experience You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of the qualifying specialized experience are: Experience reviewing legal documents and organizing records. Experience using a legal resource to interpret information. Experience communicating with other agencies to obtain legal information. OR Combination of Education and ExperienceCombination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-5 and below. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as the number of hours worked per week) spent in activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
