Duties

At the full performance level, you will provide a variety of services related to the Victim Assistance Program. If selected, you will receive formal and/or on-the-job training as needed. Duties include: Assess victims' immediate needs for assistance and identifies routine resources that are available and provides referrals to crime victims and their families. Provides information and assistance to include crisis intervention resources, assistance in securing medical treatment for injuries, information on legal rights and resources available, emergency housing options, employment services and transportation assistance. Responding to victim inquiries via phone, e-mail, letter, and fax, assessing victim concerns and determining eligibility for victim services. Providing in-court support during and prior to hearings and trials. Provides victims with routine information about the criminal justice process and court proceedings and facilitates victims' understanding and expectations of the criminal process. Coordinates with Federal, state and local law enforcement and victim service providers in establishing assistance plans to support victims. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

GS-9: To be eligible at the GS-9 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level. Specialized experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and may include performing duties such as: Eligibility screening for services based on prescribed criteria; Developing accurate resource materials that identify available counseling and treatment programs; Providing information about community organizations that offer medical, psychological, legal, financial, shelter, childcare and/or employment services based on unique needs; Responding to victim inquiries; Collecting, maintaining, and disseminating information relevant to court matters, to include consulting with case teams to obtain current information (i.e. schedule changes, status of cases, and case updates); Maintaining a tickler system of cases by timely and accurately inputting data; and Preparing travel arrangements as well as vouchers for payment of expenses. Education: One of the following types of education in a closely related field (e.g., Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology): a LL.B. or J.D., if related; OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree or higher; OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. Combining Education and Experience: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 1 full year. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies. If your agency has notified you in writing that you are a displaced employee eligible for ICTAP consideration, you may receive selection priority if: 1) this vacancy is within your ICTAP eligibility; 2) you apply under the instructions in the announcement; and 3) you are found well-qualified for this vacancy.
