The Intermediate Care Technician (ICT) Generalist is assigned to the Department of Veteran Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This position serves in outpatient care settings such as; primary care, mental health, and specialty clinics. As an ICT Generalist, the incumbent may serve in a medical center, community-based outpatient clinic (CBOC), mobile medical unit or may have virtual/remote assignments.
Duties
Performs observation-based screening and collection of patient information in collaboration with
Completes approved templates and tools, such as normal result notes and follow up treatment protocols established by the agency.
Performs Vital Signs and Point of Care Testing.
Thoroughly and appropriately documents actions, interventions, and procedures in the medical record. (Examples: Procedural notes, progress notes, screenings, photo-documentation, and secure messaging.)
Ensures precise orientation and a complete peripheral and deep margin for inspection.
Performs advanced and complex laboratory procedures; recognizes deviation from expected results; analyzes and corrects problems using scientific principles.
Assists licensed staff with preparing patients for medical evaluation, setting up equipment, passing instruments and providing treatment during in-person or virtual visits.
Operates specialized medical equipment to obtain diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
Responsible for collecting a wide range of specimens and preparing them for transfer to process (i.e. labeling, placing in proper bin/tube system).
Processes tissue specimens, including freezing, sectioning, mounting, and staining the slides according to the local MMS laboratory manual.
Provides patient education within scope of care or while providing an intervention. (Examples: post-procedural care and wound care).
Conducts or assists with the training of personnel in if appropriately trained, certified and/or qualified.
Assists licensed personnel with the delivery of care to patients with complex and specialized care needs.
Assists with outpatient minor procedures.

Performs wound care (i.e. bandaging, application of dressings, wound measurements and Photo-documentation of wounds).
Assists providers with Cryotherapy.
Participates in follow-up care such as suture removal.
Medication Administration Exp: intramuscular, oral, topical, eye drops, ear drops, intranasal, rectal suppositories, local anesthetics, nebulized medications, subcutaneous, and intradermal.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm, subject to change based on the needs of the facility.

Individual Occupational Requirement: Applicants who meet the Individual Occupational Requirements described below are fully qualified for the specified entry grade and must also meet the specialized experience..
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
In addition to meeting the above Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR), applicants must also meet the experience and/or directly related education relevant to this position.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: For the GS-06- Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Wound care. Examples: bandaging, application of dressings and wound measurements. Specimen collection and

Physical Requirements: This factor covers the requirements and physical demands placed on the employee by the work assignment.
