Serves as a Data Engineer in the Office of Information Technology (OIT), Business Systems Division (BSD), Data Platforms Team (DPT). The incumbent is primarily responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining on-premises or cloud-based data stores; managing data throughout its lifecycle from ingest to use in APIs, applications, and analysis; as well as ensuring the data is properly stored, processed, secured, and available for analysis.
Duties
Designs and develops data stores (including SQL and no-SQL databases and cloud-based data services).
Implements security controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
Creates and maintains data models that ensure data consistency, accuracy, and reliability.
Designs and develops scalable and robust data pipelines that integrate with multiple data sources.
Works closely with Data Analysts to understand their requirements and provide them with the data they need for analysis.
Collaborates with DevOps and other IT teams to ensure the proper infrastructure and resources are in place to support data processing and storage needs.
Acts as a Point of Contact for Farm Credit System and other external entities, and works with them to resolve issues involving data transfer and data validation.
Develops and maintains documentation, standards, and best practices for data engineering processes and procedures.

Qualifications
You may qualify at the VH-39 (GS-13) band level if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the VH-38 (GS-12) band level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position to include experience with data modeling, database design, and data manipulation in databases to implement security controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements and submit all required supporting documentation by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Current and former Federal employees (including VEOA eligibles) must have served one-year (52 weeks) at the next lower grade in the Federal service to meet time-in-grade restrictions per 5 CFR 300, Subpart F, by the closing date of the announcement.
Education
Education may not be substituted for experience at the VH-39 band/grade level.
