This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a IT Specialist (Network Services/Systems Administration) for the 596th US Army Transportation Surface Brigade.

Duties

Maintain various databases and charts describing structure of the Campus Area Network (CAN) Execute technical solutions in data communication or system management requirements. Design and install of Local Area Networks, Wide Area Networks and components, i.e., servers, workstations, media, topologies and connectivity devices. Provide complex technical interfaces between ISDN, mini-computer, micro-computers, communication controllers, fileservers, modems, bridges and splitters, and multiplexing devices. Determine customers existing equipment and layout, identify equipment needed by type, number speed, capability, etc., based on workload customer may generate Monitor the ongoing operation of a complex enterprise server/domain environment on a large installation. Perform corrective action to restore operational service is accomplished, advising senior administrator of problem areas. Function as a technical specialist for computer systems security at an information processing installation. Function as a technical specialist for risk management, security and contingency planning at an information processing installation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
  • As part of the IA workforce, incumbent must obtain and maintain all DoD IA training and certification requirements according to DoD 8570.01-M and the certification provider. Within 6 months of assignment of IA duties.
  • This position requires the incumbent to hold IA Management Level I certification under DoD Directive 8570.1 (IA Training and Workforce Management) and related implementing policies.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is eligible for certification IAW DoD 8570-01-M, 12/19/05.

Basic Requirement: In addition to the specialized experience listed below, your resume must indicate IT-related experience demonstrating the four competencies listed below: 1) Attention to Detail-develop organizational policy and procedures for implementation of guidance. 2) Customer Service-resolve problems with application programs. 3) Oral Communication-prepare and present reports and recommendations concerning IT related systems issues. 4) Problem Solving-evaluate the impact of new technologies on current systems and policies. Specialized Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized Experience is defined as: Responding to customers help desk requests by providing software application updates. Providing guidance and/or training to customers to prevent operating system issues. Troubleshooting software/hardware malfunctions to resolve network system issues. OR Education Experience: Possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree from a nationally accredited university that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience:of successfully completed education and specialized experience described above may be used to meet the total qualification requirements at the GS-11 level.
