You will serve as an AIR CONDITIONING EQUIPMENT MECHANIC LEADER in the PRODUCTION DIV, NAVFAC MIDLANT, NSA HAMPTON ROADS.

Duties

You will serve as a working leader over at least three trades and crafts employees. You will diagnose, locate, and repair malfunctions to the main operating mechanical components of large, complex heating, ventilation; air conditioning, and refrigeration systems (HVAC) for commercial/ industrial size systems. You will conduct visual and audible examinations of equipment components by applying prescribed test procedures and equipment, and by exploration of probable reasons for equipment failure. You will perform maintenance, calibration, modification, installation, repair and replacement of analog and direct digital controls (DDC) systems and equipment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CFC/HFC Certification (Universal) as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees.
  • May be required to serve as an on-call duty mechanic on a rotational basis, required to carry a duty cell phone and/or pager and must remain available to respond on site to after-hour emergencies within two hours.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Disassembling and repairing a variety of components including compressors, evaporators, condensers, cooling coils, air handlers, bearings, water control valves, air dampers, etc.; 2) Lubricating moving parts and replaces air filters, v belts, electrical motors, pulleys, sheaves, bearings, fan shafts, etc.; 3) Reporting to supervisor on status and progress of work, and causes of work delays and 4) Performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs of commercial and industrial air conditioning and refrigeration systems.
