This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the PRODUCT AND INVESTIGATIONS BRANCH. As a GENERAL INVESTIGATOR, you will perform a variety of duties including security determinations, monitors case development and coordinating assignments.

Duties

As a GENERAL INVESTIGATOR, you will: Perform a wide range of investigative duties relating to internal investigations and inspections encompassing but not limited to the following allegations: Theft of Product; Theft of Equipment; False Claims for Reimbursement of Mutilated Currency; Fraudulent Credit Card Purchases from Public Sales; Waste, Fraud and Abuse; Off and On Duty Arrests; Inappropriate Use of Government Credit Cards/Travel; Worker's Compensation Fraud; Procurement Fraud; and other investigations deemed appropriate by the Chief, Office of Security. Interview or interrogate suspects and witnesses; searches for documentary evidence from federal, state and local law enforcement or investigative agencies, courts and other sources to substantiate findings or conclusions, examines records to detect possible links to an employee's conduct and trustworthiness, and prepares a Report of Investigation (ROI). Plan, organize and conduct OIG referral investigations. Participate in program and project planning efforts to evaluate the need for updated or improved security requirements, recommends equipment, methods, procedures, and systems enhancement. Acquire and maintain the minimum Bureau firearm proficiency standard with a Bureau issued weapon.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience: for this position includes: - Experience with generally accepted investigative principles, techniques, methods and procedures applicable to administrative investigative function; AND - Experience developing evidence that reconstructs events, sequences and time elements; AND - Experience working with other individuals, agencies, or offices to gather required information; AND - Experience preparing investigative reports. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11level for 52 weeks.

Education

Education Requirements:
Bureau of Engraving and Printing has a memorandum of understanding the U.S. Office of Personnel Management that requires each investigator to have the required education or experience as follows:
a. A college degree (bachelor's); or
b. Four years of general experience; or
c. Two years of specialized experience within the last 5 years; or
d. One year of specialized Federal background investigation experience within last 5 years.

General experience is progressively responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to problem solve, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions, plan and organize work and communicate effectively orally and in writing on a professional level.
Specialized Experience is progressively responsible experience conducting general background investigations or as a local, state, military or Federal law enforcement officer.
Specialized Federal background investigation experience is experience conducting background investigations for a Federal agency.


The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.
