This Health Aid position is within Nursing/Education service at the Bedford VA Medical Center at the Bedford, MA.location. This position is Full-Time, Temporary, Not to Exceed 12 months.
The incumbent provides Health Care aid at the Health Care System VISN and facility levels. The position is responsible for delivering a broad array of health care services throughout the Medical Center, and it's various locations that provide in patient care, such as but not limited to the living centers.

VA Bedford is launching an innovative, on-the-job training program, for those looking to become nursing assistants. We offer a 12 week intensive program for individuals interested in becoming a nursing assistant at the VA.
Those selected for the program will enter as a health aide. Upon successful completion of the course, graduates will be promoted to nursing assistants.
The Health Aid is responsible for performing selected patient/resident related transports to different areas such as, x-rays, CT Scan, MRI, Prosthetics, Sonography and other related areas. The incumbent is expected to develop and demonstrate increasing skills in performing a variety of tasks. Duties include but are not limited to:

GS-02 Required Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: 3 months of general experience is required. General Experience is any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation.
OR
EDUCATION: High school graduation or equivalent (copy of diploma/ copy of GED certificate required).
GS-03 Required Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE: At least six (6) months of general experience. General experience is (1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area (i.e. nutrition, food service, etc.) of the occupation.
OR
EDUCATION: Successful completion of one (1) full year of education above high school level that included study in medical, health, or related fields. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.
OR
COMBINATION: Equivalent combination of successfully completed post-high school education and general experience, as listed above.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Duties require extensive periods of standing and walking.
