About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Surgery, Orthopedic Service, Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market.

Duties
Provide diagnostic and treatment procedures to patients of varying ages and within multiple services.
Screen patients under the supervision of the RN.
Monitor a wide range of patients.
Perform a wide range of treatment procedures that include venipuncture for PRP injections, collection of cultures, assist with splints and braces.
Modify care immediately following observed patient reaction to treatments provided.
Perform varying diagnostic support duties to include taking vital signs, collecting specimens, calling and recording laboratory reports, and assisting the provider with examinations.
Administer medication to patients within established scope of practice.
Update care plans throughout shifts and in accordance with standard practices.
Keep record of patient conditions and plans for care.
Support the patient and their family in the integration of care plans to achieve discharge objectives.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
Assist with orthopedic and podiatric clinical and surgical post operative treatments, injections, coordination of care plans and associated clinical duties.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the employer.

Basic Requirement for a Practical Nurse:
Licensure: A current license to practice as a practical/vocational nurse in a State or territory of the United States or District of Columbia OR must have applied for a license to practice. Applications of candidates possessing a license must be accompanied by a certified or photostatic copy of the license. Non-licensed candidates who have completed their training may be appointed subject to obtaining the required license during the probationary period. Those not licensed must furnish the date on which they applied for a license and the jurisdiction involved. No person appointed pending licensure may be retained beyond the probationary period if licensure has not been attained.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience required: One year of nursing experience in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other supervised medical, nursing, or patient care facility that provided a practical knowledge of human body structure and sterile techniques and procedures, performing such duties as measuring patient's vital signs, administering immunizations or medications via various routes, screening or updating patient medical records and performing routine procedures. This definition of nursing experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
