As a PERSONNEL SECURITY SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties:

- Telework Eligibility: This position is telework eligible, but is not a full time telework position. The incumbent will be required to report to the office on a routine basis.
- If selected, the incumbent must obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as indicated in job announcement.
- This position is designated Special-Sensitive; the incumbent must obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
- The duties of this position may require temporary duty travel and/or local travel.
- Temporary Duty/Travel is anticipated to be 20%.
- Incumbent must successfully attain and maintain the DoD Security Professional Education Development Program (SPeD), Security Fundamentals Professional Certification (SFPC), within 24 months of being hired.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.
You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG-12 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility.
Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience with Personnel Security and/or Insider Threat program trends and processes improvement techniques.
Developing Personnel Security and/or Insider Threat programs and business enterprise architecture (process flow maps, system views, data models, etc.).guides and/or supports efforts to design Personnel Security and/or Insider Threat processes and solutions to increase efficiencies
Developing and implementing strategies for the integration of new technologies in support of agency deployment and onboarding objectives and goals.
Specifically you will be evaluated on the following competencies:
1. Personnel Security - Apply personnel security principles and methods to process initial investigations, clearances, periodic re-investigations, and clearance upgrades/downgrades, suspension, revocations, terminations, reinstatements and to complete the adjudication, and appeals processes. Evaluate internal and external security clearance requests and ensures applicant's actions are consistent with regulatory requirements. Analyze and report on clearance and appeals findings to senior security officials and makes appropriate notifications.
2. Influencing/Negotiating - Establishes and maintains relationships with key individuals/groups; understands what motivates them. Persuades others; builds consensus through give and take; gains cooperation from others to obtain information, find solutions, and accomplish goals.
3. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
4. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
