Position is located within the Veterans Administration (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and may be located within any of the Veterans Administration Medical Centers (VAMC) within the Mid-Atlantic Healthcare Network (VISN 6).
Duties
Major duties include but not limited to:
Serves as a mechanic assigned to the Operations Section and works rotating shifts.
Responsible for maintenance and repair, preventive maintenance, completing work orders and handling emergency calls during irregular duty hours. Incumbent repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment in accordance with diagrams, sketches, operation manuals and manufacturer's specifications, using hand and power tools and precision measuring and testing instruments.
Performs tasks in a variety of trades, including plumbing, carpentry, and electrical.
Checks preventative maintenance inspections schedule monthly, verifies physical location, type of equipment and performs required maintenance on listed equipment.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and makes repairs including, but not limited, to those required in the following trades:
PLUMBING: Makes repairs and may perform some installation of existing utilities and disposal systems. Incumbent inspects, repairs and replaces fittings and plumbing fixtures to maintain water and drainage systems.
CARPENTRY: Repairs and maintains wooden structures such as furniture, railings, shelves, doors, bulletin boards, etc.
ELECTRICAL: Inspects and tests electrical lighting, power circuits and ballast transformers, and other simple elements of electrical systems, fixtures, and appliances.
AIR CONDITIONNG: Maintenance Mechanic must be skilled in the installation, repair, modification and preventive maintenance of most heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration equipment
Work Schedule: Wednesday-Sunday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Physical Requirements: Position requires ability to lift heavy objects; carry, push or pull a variety of materials and equipment such as fixtures, tools, ladders, and testing equipment. Duties involve climbing, pulling, kneeling, bending, and walking for prolonged periods.
