This Maintenance Worker Leader position .is located in the Department of Veterans. Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA),~Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Durham VA Medical 1 Center (VAMC), in Engineering Service.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
The incumbent is a lead worker and performs as a Maintenance Worker Leader assigned to the Area Maintenance Section of Engineering Service.
Incumbent consistently and independently leads the Area Maintenance Section employees in the their assignments and, assigns work and schedules under general production accomplishment guidelines and deadlines established by the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor.
Incumbent must accurately relay instructions from the supervisor as well as constructively use own judgment to modify the instructions to meet requirements necessitated by any situation confronting the employees due to proper procedures and techniques by staff and other personnel under their direction.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and makes repairs including, but not limited, to those required in the following trades: Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, Air Conditioning, and Painting.
Incumbent serves as a working leader of employees in accomplishing trades and labor work.
Ensures that needed plans, blueprints, material and tools are available, and that needed stock is obtained from supply locations.
Ensures that there is enough work to keep everyone in the work crew busy.
Checks work in progress and when finished, checks for compliance with supervisor's instructions on work sequence procedures, methods and deadlines.
Incumbent will perform the more routine tasks related to Plumbing, Carpentry, Electrical, Air Conditioning, and Painting.
Incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor.
Changes filters and cleans air conditioning units throughout the Medical Center.
Keeps mechanics supplied with tools and work materials, as well as working with the mechanics in combined tasks as instructed.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm

Physical Requirements: Incumbent must be in good physical condition to lift, carry; push or pull a, variety of parts, materials, accessories, and equipment weighing less than fifty (50) pounds, such as fixtures, tools, ladders and testing equipment. Incumbent will also be required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch to make necessary repairs. Often works in difficult positions; in cramped locations and/or close spaces; in hot and cold areas and in air duct shafts air is moving at high velocity. May be required to stand for long periods of time.
