This position works in the Nutrition Communication Center (NCC) as the NCC Coordinator located in a Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The employee works with Nutrition and Food Service information systems and is responsible for maintaining the systems and resolving issues related to the N&FS systems as they arise throughout the medical center.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Resolves information technology issues related to integration of VISTA, Get Well Network/Touch Tone Dining and N&FS Systems Develops and updates nutrient database on nutrition analysis of menu items served Makes menu/recipe changes and all necessary updates in food service system (any commercial of-the-shelf (COTS) program) Consults with COTS contractor when unable to resolve issues internally Troubleshoots and resolves all electronic or paper menu issues Consults with clinical nutrition staff to resolve tray ticket issues with complex diets Provides training and orientation for all N&FS employees Serves as NCC liaison between Veterans, multidisciplinary healthcare staff and N&FS staff Participates in performance improvement activities by assisting in the development of indicators and monitors, data collection and analysis, corrective actions and preparation of reports Handles patient problems and complaints related to N&FS as appropriate Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency standards, including state, federal and Joint Commission Performing related duties as required. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 01/30/2024. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR) for Health Aid and Technician (0640): This occupational series has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR) which is a minimum qualification requirement. To be considered for the position, you must ensure that the experience is reflected in your resume and/or if applicable, transcripts must be uploaded to support education requirement or substitution. Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-06 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-05. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Provide assistance with basic computer systems, programs and/or software applications Assist with training staff on computer systems/software and security issues Collect data to assist with preparing reports Possess effective communications skills Perform duties that supports medical and/or health personnel. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. Completion of six months of graduate level education (9 semester hours) that is directly related to the work of the position to be filled. (Note: To be creditable, this education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university). NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. OR, Combination of Experience & Education: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an appropriate combination of specialized experience and graduate-level education. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ***Preferred Experience: Documented experience using nutrition software systems; working in a call center/customer service environment; and knowledge of therapeutic diets.*** NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: CommunicationComputer SkillsEducation and TrainingFood Service Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Routine work requires repetitive motion activities of the hands and fingers for extensive phone, keyboard and computer mouse use, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, intermittent/non-strenuous ambulation around all areas of the medical center, and carrying light items such as papers, books, portable scales, and food trays. Occasionally, duties may require the movement of audio-visual equipment and/or classroom area organization and driving an automobile.
