This supervisory position is located in the Live Claims Section of the Insurance Claims Division, Philadelphia Insurance Center.
Duties
Advise the Chief, Insurance Claims Division and the Section Live Claims, on the daily operation of the Unit to include reporting daily operational problems and needs.
Responsible for maintenance of time and leave records, approval of leave and preparation of vacation schedules.
Collect performance data and writes performance evaluations for subordinates; and recommend remedial action where appropriate and develops individual performance improvement plans.
Counsel employees regarding minor disciplinary matters and provides warnings and admonishments as appropriate.
Receive and resolve most employee complaints or grievances, taking appropriate corrective action where necessary.
Plan and assign work priorities for his/her subordinates.
Authorize and reviews all Statements of the Case for technical accuracy.
Review case work for accuracy and authorizes certain actions, such as decisions involving administrative adjustments and Congressional interest cases.
Serve on various division and station level committees, represents the Section Chief and Division Chief on various committees, meetings and/or conferences.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-in-grade:
Applicants who are/were federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. For a GS-12 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-11 level. To support your claim of time in grade, you must submit your most recent appointment, promotion, or within grade increase SF-50 (not an award or general adjustment SF-50). Some applicants may have to submit more than one SF-50 to demonstrate their eligibility. See the required documents section for more information.
Specialized Experience:
To qualify, applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
knowledge of Veteran Affairs Life Insurance rules, regulations, polices and procedures;
ability to analyze data and make decisions,
maintain effective interpersonal communication with employees and customers, and
Knowledge of Veteran Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI)
