This position is located in Flagstaff Area National Monuments, in the Resource Stewardship & Science Division. Duties

The Recent Graduates Program affords developmental experiences in the Federal Government intended to promote possible careers in the civil service to individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying educational institutions or programs. The full performance level (FPL) of the target position that the Recent Graduate can be non-competitively promoted to is a GS-11. Promotion to the full performance level is neither guaranteed nor implied and will be based solely on your ability to satisfactorily perform the work of the position, existing work at the higher grade level, and recommendation by the position's supervisor. Major Duties: Receives advanced formal and on the job instruction and training designed to familiarize incumbent with functions and operations of the organization and to provide additional experience in the practical application of basic natural and or cultural techniques and concepts. Works with resource specialists to collect field data and to develop program-specific monitoring and reporting. Works with regional personnel to replace devices and to ensure the security of GIS hardware and software including system administration and maintenance. Prepares illustrations for use in field work, presentations and or publications. Recent Graduate Program Requirements: Students MUST submit transcripts with conferred or degree earned date (unofficial transcripts are acceptable). If selected, official transcripts will be required. An Individual Development Plan (IDP) will be completed within 45 days of appointment to track the Recent Graduates' career planning, professional development, and training activities. Selectee will be required to sign Recent Graduates Participant Agreement. Within the first year of employment, the incumbent will be provided a minimum of 40 formal hours of training. The incumbent will be assigned a mentor within 90 days of appointment.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-02/06/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount qualified specialized experience. RECENT GRADUATES PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY To be eligible, you must meet one of the following requirements: Completed all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two years; OR Due to military service obligation, you were precluded from applying to the Recent Graduate Program during any portion of the two-year eligibility period described above. This eligibility period cannot extend more than six years from the date on which the requirement for the academic degree or certificate was received. You must possess the qualifications requirements identified below to be considered qualified for this position. Your application or resume must clearly show that you possess the experience requirements. Transcripts must be provided for qualifications based on education. Provide course descriptions as necessary. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: Geography (0150): Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in appropriate field of geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields. You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience equivalent to a major or a combination of courses totaling at least 24 semester hours in an appropriate field of geography, or related course work, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts. Biologist (0401): Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience courses equivalent to a major as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts. Physical Scientist (1301): Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience courses equivalent to one of the major as shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts. Cartographer (1370): Successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree in cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites). You must include transcripts. -OR- Combination of Education and Experience in courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. You must include transcripts. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, to qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) collect field data contributing to the basic natural or cultural resources inventory or a monitoring program; (2) conduct standard analysis of geo-referenced data to determine resources conditions and trends; (3) learn and train to maintain hardware, peripherals, GPS units, and GIS operating systems (typically both UNIX and DOS); (4) ascertain the correct and appropriate application of geographic and cartographic concepts and principles are applied to database construction, analyses, and production of high quality digital and hardcopy GIS products. Those without such specialized experience will be disqualified. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. You must include transcripts.-OR-- Have completed all the requirements for a bachelor's degree in a curriculum that is qualifying for this position, from an accredited college or university, and meet one of the requirements for Superior Academic Achievement based on the following: (1) class standing (upper third standing in graduating class based on completed courses); (2) grade-point average (3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 as recorded on the official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum); or (3) election to membership in a national scholastic honor society. (NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education) You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take graduate credit hours divided by 18 and this will give you the percentage of education. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.

Education

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
