The incumbent is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for one or more parks, documenting, analyzing and integrating the management of resources.

Duties
Prepare geospatial data from multiple sources including historical maps, mobile data collection, tabular data, online sources, and other relevant sources for use in mapping products.
Use GIS software, computer models, and other GIS tools together with biological and physical scientific knowledge and resources management practices to conduct analysis of geospatial data, to develop geospatial products to assist in the planning and implementation of fire projects.
Conduct analysis of geospatial data to determine resource conditions and trends, models expected or predicted results of alternative management actions and works to resolve management issues.
Maintain hardware, peripherals, mobile data collection devices, network, and GIS operating systems such as ArcGIS Field Maps, and tablet/mobile software.
Implement a program to ensure the security and currency of GIS hardware and software including system administration and maintenance.
Coordinate the acquisition and management of GIS data with other federal, state, and local Resources offices and the academic community.
Work cooperatively with non-GIS Specialists on issues and GIS applications of mutual concern and application.
Coordinate and manages data collection priorities, funding mechanisms, and joint projects.
Prepare GIS plans, data dictionaries, resources management plan project statements related to GIS, project proposals, GIS-related contract and agreement specifications, and written reports.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Geography, GS-0150:
Degree: A 4-year degree (Bachelor's or higher) in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Natural Resources Management/Biological Sciences, GS-0401:
Degree: A 4-year degree (Bachelor's or higher) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, fire science, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.
Physical Science, GS-1301:
Degree: A 4-year degree (Bachelor's or higher) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
OR
Combination of education and experience: Education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Cartography, GS-1370:
Degree: A 4-year degree (Bachelor's or higher) in cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such coursework includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college-level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college-level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites).
OR
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATION:
In addition to the requirements described above, the following additional experience and/or education for the grade(s) specified is required.
For the GS-7 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Working under close supervision with a diverse group of local resources specialists, planners and managers to implement local GIS activities; Knowledge of geospatial analysis techniques including analytical techniques and modeling, cartographic principles, raster processing, and scripting; Applying geospatial information management, database design, mobile GIS, and ArcGIS Online in an enterprise GIS environment; Utilizing appropriate field mapping hardware and GIS software; Assisting in geospatial program coordination activities and providing technical support and training.
OR
One year of graduate-level education, if related. Examples of related education include forestry, wildland fire science, or other directly related sciences;
OR
Superior academic achievement;
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
For the GS-9 level:
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level. Examples of specialized experience are: Participating in natural and/or cultural resource management activities with functions and operations of the organization that included study of the history of discipline-specific scientific thought, studies and theories, geologic mapping; Utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) related technology and techniques to develop analytical judgment skills working on cases or projects and assignments to solve GIS issues and complete a variety of data projects and assignments in support of natural and cultural resources management activities; Familiarity with a variety of standard GIS software and use of standard principles, methods, and practices to solve relatively limited professional problems; Working on repetitive features of assigned work and applied standard practices of scientific data acquisition and analysis standards, methods, and recording techniques on the collection and summation of data.
OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree in a related field;
OR
2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if related;
OR
An appropriate combination of specialized experience and education (only graduate education in excess of 18 semester hours may be used to qualify applicants for this grade level). The education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
