This position is located on the Preoperative Unit of Quentin N Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, IHS, Belcourt, North Dakota. The purpose of this position is to provide surgical scrub technician support for surgical operations ranging from minor surgical procedures to more complex and extensive surgical procedures.
Duties
Functions as a primary scrub technician responsible for handling instruments, supplies, and equipment during all surgical procedures such as dental (adult and pediatric), ear, nose and throat, eye, orthopedic, podiatry, obstetrics/gynecology, endoscopy and general surgery.
Sets up sterile field with all required items for each procedure such as air powered equipment, fiber optic equipment, laparoscopic equipment, microscopes, lasers, arthroscopy equipment, urologic equipment, recording devices, and other operating room supplies and equipment.
Assists surgeon by passing instruments and sterile supplies throughout surgical procedures. Performs such procedures as preparing skin grafts, suctioning, holding retractors, applying skin staples, and cutting sutures. Prepares prosthesis and surgical devices during procedures.
Provides cleaning, packaging and sterilizing services in support of hospital services. Performs various assignments, i.e., decontamination, instrument preparation, equipment maintenance and supply, and storage and issue.
Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements:
Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: monitoring and maintaining aseptic technique throughout procedures; coordinate or participate in the positioning of patients, using body stabilizing equipment or protective padding to provide appropriate exposure for the procedure or protection; and maintaining an unobstructed operative field, using surgical retractors, sponges, or suctioning and irrigating equipment. Or, 1 year (18 semester hours) of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the position.
