This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Police Officers to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Temporary, not to exceed 1 year. This position MAY be extended up to 3 years and/or made permanent (contingent upon noncompetitive eligibility).
Duties
Conduct traffic law enforcement patrol using specialized equipment such as radar and breathalyzer.
Operate National Crime Information Center terminal in accordance with federal and state laws.
Respond to and investigate emergency calls, complaints and other calls for service.
Exercise search and arrest authority, detain witnesses, apprehend suspects, and interview witnesses.
Collect and preserve evidence.
Conduct long and short-term investigations on criminal cases.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- This is a Temporary position intended to last 1 year. A temporary position may be extended to a maximum of three years and may be terminated at any time during the duration of the appointment, depending upon the needs of management.
- This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
- Incumbent must be able to successfully pass training, certification and qualification requirements related to law enforcement work functions as prescribed by policy, regulations or statutes.
- Incumbent must pass, within 90 days of being hired and annually thereafter, a physical agility test IAW AR 190-56, Chapter 2.
- This position is covered by the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) and has been designated by the Department of Army as critical to the national or internal security. An assessment of suitability and character is required annually.
- Incumbent must meet the requirements of AR 190-56 to include the requirement to wear a uniform and maintain a high state of uniform appearance and personal hygiene.
- Incumbent is subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority injudicious use of force in the apprehension or detention of individuals.
- The work involves moderate and high risks and possible endangerment of life or serious injury that requires the exercise of safety precautions and use of personal protective equipment.

To Qualify for the GS 06 Level - Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergency situations and documenting security or safety violations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
To Qualify for the GS 07 level - Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes apprehending violators; coordinating emergency responses; and investigating crime or accident scenes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
