Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. Periods of work are park dependent. You will work from approximately: Fossil Butte (March - December), Timpanogos Cave (mid-January - mid-December). You will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.
Duties
These positions perform recurring building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties to assist journeymen and other higher graded maintenance workers. You will perform a minimum of two of the following trades:
Carpentry - construct, install, repair and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.
Painting - prepare surfaces; determine painting materials to be used and method of application; paint a variety of surfaces.
Plumbing - replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines; cut and thread pipes; winterize water systems, etc.
Roofing - patch and repair tar and paper, metal, foam roofs, and asphalt shingles.
Electrical - makerepairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures.
Cement Finishing - build and set forms for sidewalks and steps; mix, pour, spread, and level cement and concrete in preparation for final finishing.
Masonry - maintenance, repair, construction and/or stabilization of sites using mortars or adobes.
Water Plant Operator - monitor pumping equipment; regulate water; read meters, gauges, and charts; record readings; prepare reports.
You will receive work orally or through work orders. The instructions are of a general nature, supplemented by your knowledge and understanding of the trade. You are responsible for detailed layout, selection of tools and materials and for accuracy, completeness and adherence to standards. Assigned tasks are performed independently, with no technical assistance. Finished work is checked for adequacy by supervisor.
Fossil Butte National Monument - Work with youth in the Youth Conservation Corps program each summer.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:
Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT). Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the full range of Maintenance Worker tasks in at least two of the following trades: Carpentry, Painting, Plumbing, Roofing, Electrical, Cement Finishing, Masonry, Wastewater Plant Operator, Water Plant Operator.
Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic).
Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading).
Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment.
Knowledge of Materials.
