The position of GI Clinic Health Technician (HT) is established to provide support in a wide variety of basic clinical and intermediate level administrative functions. The purpose of the position is to improve the quality and timeliness by which basic services are delivered to patients by providing administrative and clinical support in a wide variety of ancillary activities.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Utilizes applicable computer software programs and/or database applications to perform required tasks. Utilizes appropriate tone of voice and body language to manage patient communication. Possesses good judgment and skill in influencing and communicating with patients. Utilizes various methods to manage patients that display problematic behaviors, such as lack of control. Understands and utilizes standard precautions and uses proper protective equipment. Adheres to quality and infection control protocols. Demonstrates application of the principles of infection control in all activities (i.e. proper hand washing procedures, etc.). Work Schedule: 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician (Gastroenterology)/PD02442A Physical Requirements: The variety of duties reflects a variety of potential extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, carrying items, typing, writing, as well as lifting heavy, sometimes immobile patients. The incumbent is expected to utilize good body mechanics and have stamina to withstand a stressful environment. Work Environment: The work is nominally performed within the existing physical structure, which is environmentally controlled. Occasional work may be required outside the building; examples include but not limited to, assisting patients out or into their vehicles, declared emergencies outside the building, disaster situations - including drills. Most functions require normal safety precautions, though situations may occur that require special protective equipment. Additionally, there are risks of exposure to undiagnosed and infectious diseases, contact with patients intoxicated, and risks of verbal or physical assault

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement.GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Individual Occupational Requirements (IOR): Applicants must meet the below IOR to be further considered. Specialized Experience, positions in this series range widely in type and include support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the below specialized experience and the above IOR by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized experience: Examples of specialized experience would typically include but are not limited to: Utilizes pneumatic tube system, fax, and copy machine. Monitors breathing and heart rate equipment, and performing EKGs. Displays skill in management of difficult or aggressive patients. Assists medical staff with performing diagnostic procedures.
