This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), United States Coast Guard (USCG), Deputy Commandant for Operations, Assistant Commandant for Response Policy (CG-5R), Director of National Command & Response Centers (CG-5RC), CG National Response Center (CG-NRC), Washington, DC.
Duties
As a Program Specialist (Environmental Response) within the NRC, you will serve as the sole federal point of contact for the reporting of all pollution, railroad, and port security incidents occurring in the United States and its territories. The work requires extensive operation of telephone systems, landline circuits, in collecting, evaluating, updating and disseminating incident information. The NRC works to enhance environmental quality by providing stakeholder agencies with timely communication of pollution incidents within their respective jurisdictions.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Must be able to obtain NRC Duty Officer Certification within 12 months.
- The position requires a valid state driver's license.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This position requires a rotating shift, 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
- This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
- This position is subject to random drug testing.
Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
GS-09 You qualify if you possess one year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal, State, or Local government or equivalent public or private sector experience. Your resume must demonstrate that you meet the specialized experience below:
Preparing correspondence (letters, memos, e-mails, etc.) related to a variety of environmental, emergency response and/or maritime incidents; AND
Collecting and analyzing data related to environmental pollution, security/suspicious activity, and railroad incidents; AND
Dispersing critical information related to environmental threats, maritime security, and railroad incidents to the appropriate agencies.
OR
A master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related. OR A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in or related to the work of this position AND graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
