About the Position: This position is located in Beaufort, South Carolina for Elliott Elementary School.

Duties

Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding. Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations. Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students. Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students. Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students. Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.

Requirements

• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
• Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
• Direct deposit of pay is required.
• One year trial or probationary period may be required.
• Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
• This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
• American Sign Language Certification required.

Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience service which includes: utilizing American Sign Language to translate and interpret conversations, providing special education support, and developing audio-visual tactile aides for the hearing impaired. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
