About the Position:
This position is located in Beaufort, South Carolina for Elliott Elementary School.
This position is Seasonal part-time (35 hours per week).
This is a Term position NTE 13 months.
Position may be made permanent without further competition.
Duties
Clearly explain concepts being taught and observe students for understanding.
Develop audio-visual tactile aides and set up lab demonstrations.
Serve as an interpreter for deaf and/or hearing impaired students.
Interprets teacher's directions and messages in sign language to students.
Distribute and collect testing materials as needed by students.
Provide supervision of and instruction to students on simple subject matter.
Requirements
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement.
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship required.
- Direct deposit of pay is required.
- One year trial or probationary period may be required.
- Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation.
- This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age.
- American Sign Language Certification required.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Specialized Experience GS-07: One year of specialized experience service which includes: using experience and signing methodology to translate conversations between deaf/hearing impaired and hearing individuals; and performing basic instruction of a quasi-professional nature to the deaf/hearing impaired.This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06 or above).
