The Fleet and Family Support Centers (FFSC) at NAS Fallon are looking for the best and brightest to join our team as a Sexual Assault Prevention and Response (SAPR) Victim Advocate (VA). The SAPR VA works under the program oversight of an installation Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) for sexual assault cases and is supervised by the Installation Lead SARC.

Duties

The primary purpose of the position is to serve as the primary initial point of contact for victims of sexual assault and to work closely with the installation Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) to ensure comprehensive care for victims throughout their care process.The incumbent provides 24/7 support by serving on the SAPR watch bill. Assists the SARC in coordinating the services that victims receive from various agencies including medical, legal, mental health, and investigative services. Facilitates care to include crisis intervention when necessary and provides referrals and non-clinical support to the adult victims of sexual assault. As appropriate, thoroughly explains to the victim each of the reporting options available to him or her, including the exceptions or limitations on use applicable to each, while ensuring victims are informed of their rights. Maintains appropriate follow-up contact and assists the victim with prioritizing actions and establishing short- and long-term goals related to recovery from sexual assault. Accompanies the victim to appointments and civilian and military court proceedings as appropriate and when requested by the victim. Consults regularly with the SARC and is directly accountable to the SARC for all SAPR cases. Attends the monthly Sexual Assault Case Management Group (SACMG) meetings in order to advocate on behalf of the victim and to ensure the victim's needs are met. Assists the SARC with the development and coordination of installation SAPR prevention and public awareness campaigns and local events. Conducts trainings on sexual assault prevention and response, as required. Assists SARC in incident data collection and reporting requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation and obtain/maintain a Secret Security Clearance (T3).
  • A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any scheduled appointments.
  • Upon hire, as a condition of employment, the applicant must successfully complete, obtain, and maintain Defense Sexual Assault Advocate Certification Program (D-SAACP) certification.

Qualifications

Completion of a four-year degree in behavioral health, social science, or criminal justice and two years of experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral health or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field OR an appropriate combination of education and experience that demonstrates possession of knowledge and skill equivalent to that gained in the above Experience with the Navy SAPR program preferred Must have the ability and skill to provide effective trainings and briefings The ability to maintain accurate statistics for program data collection and reports Must have the ability to understand, be sensitive to, and have empathy for victims; must have the ability to develop trusting helping relationships and to work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. Must have the ability to intervene in crisis situations, using sound professional judgment, ethical practice and common sense Must be able to work cooperatively with military and civilian medical, social service, law enforcement and legal personnel on behalf of victims Must be skilled in written and verbal communication; and have knowledge of Microsoft Office suite and use of office software applications and equipment Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing in English Must demonstrate the ability to provide effective trainings and briefings Ability to develop trusting helping relationships and work effectively with individuals and families from diverse racial, ethnic, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) and of virtual training and meeting platforms.

Education

Completion of a four-year degree in behavioral health, social science, or criminal justice AND two years of experience that demonstrates acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral health or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field
