You will serve as a Industrial Mechanical Inspector (Ships) in the Quality Assurance Office, Non-Nuclear Inspection Division, Code 133.1 of PSNS and IMF.

Duties

You will perform mechanical, piping, receipt and structural inspections, pre-arrival and material condition assessment inspections. You will test inspections, certification and acceptance of completed work reviews on non-nuclear secondary reactor plant system components. You will perform on a multitude of highly sophisticated, complex secondary nuclear reactor plant, ship hull and personnel systems. You will perform on very complex systems and components such as hull-penetration valves. You will perform inspection using special measuring and inspection devices. You will ensure the appropriate grade cleanliness (Oxygen, Steam Plant, etc.) is maintained in accordance with local directives. You will maintain records of inspection performed, results of these inspections and corrective action taken in accordance with local directives.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Work may require lifting, and or carrying, generally not in excess of forty-four pounds.
  • The employee may be required to meet the physical and training requirements to become a qualified radiation worker.
