About the Position: This position is located with DPTMS at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County. Bordering the installation to the north are the towns of Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44.
Duties
Assist the Emergency Manager with the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of the installation’s emergency management programs, policies, and operations.
Prepare after action reports, briefings, evaluations, corrective action lists, and performance improvement plans.
Advise manager of outside notifications and requests for natural disaster response.
Assist in planning and conducting emergency preparedness education, training, exercise, and drills.
Oversee the Crisis Action Team staff assignments and training.
Assist in assuring that the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is maintained in a high degree of readiness and is prepared to commence operations immediately during a potential or actual disaster.
Assist in making necessary coordination for defense support to civil authorities in emergency management.
Coordinate meetings comprised of key stakeholders and staff members.
Notify all concerned installation organizations of important development.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Temporary duty travel may be required up to 10% of the duty time.
- The incumbent or designated alternate will be required to take part in readiness exercises.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Experience in developing, coordinating and executing an installation's Emergency Management (EM) program; ensuring effective prevention, protection, response, and recovery operations to allow continued mission capability at the installation level. Evaluating Emergency Management (EM) program to ensure compliance with established guidance. Experience in Installation Emergency Operations Center (EOC) positions, specialized teams, implementing programs and policies. Experience in assisting development of Natural Disaster response procedures. Developing emergency preparedness plans. Report writing directly related to EM program. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, if unrelated in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management Degree.
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18 and then add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the second lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
