The Utility Systems Operator Leader serves as a work leader in the Utility Systems shop. In this capacity, the position involves the direction of 7 Utility Operators and 2 A/C Equipment Operator and reports to the direct Utility Systems supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for all the medical center's Chiller and Boiler plant operations.
Duties
Determines and orders monthly and quarterly requirements of operating supplies for the Boiler and Chiller plants to keep all systems in operating condition.
Identifies supply sources for and initiates emergency procurements.
Establishes standard operational procedures and reviews job work orders for accuracy and manpower utilization.
Stays current on Joint Commission and NFPA 85 requirements and develops preventive maintenance procedures for all critical systems and equipment.
Assigns work to subordinates through oral or written instructions, current job analysis and standard operating procedures.
Understands and applies work requirements, methods and procedures.
Provides on-the-job training and participates in formal training programs for employees.
Coordinates work with other Engineering shops relating to systems or equipment with co-responsibilities (i.e. HVAC, Controls, plumbing, electrical).
Incumbent to work in tandem with the Operations Supervisor to handle all scheduling for 24/7 coverage of Boiler/Chiller plants.
Orders materials and maintains stock levels to ensure minimal work order delays with the supervision of the direct supervisor.
Assist with orientation of new employees and on the job training.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: It is necessary that the incumbent demonstrates, instructs and train his subordinate employees in all trades under his/her leadership. Incumbent is exposed to the same working conditions as all his/her employees. Incumbent must be physically fit. This includes lifting heavy equipment, bending, stooping, and working in cramped places for extended periods of time and often works in hot and cold places.
