Duties

Maintains and manages environmental programs designed for environmental protection and environmental compliance for Major Subordinate Command (MSCs) of The Defense Logistics Agency, DLA Distribution. Assists with audit assertion and audit readiness for all of Distribution Performs studies and makes recommendations for improvements on the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental compliance and response programs and initiatives. Provides technical support for environmental compliance, environmental liability identification and tracking, environmental cleanup, environmental restoration and environmental support services.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Environmental Protection Specialist your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Assisting in maintaining and managing environmental programs designed for environmental protection and compliance. Overseeing studies and makes recommendations for improvements on the effectiveness and efficiency of environmental compliance and response programs initiatives. Assisting personnel regarding interpretation of environmental compliance directives and instructions. Providing program modification to meet changing organizational needs and mission requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The work requires regular and recurring physical exertion such as prolonged standing, bending and stooping to observe work operations and identify hazardous material containers and hazardous waste containers as well as leaking containers in a treatment, storage and disposal area. The work involves regular and recurring exposure to moderate risks or discomforts that require special safety and environmental precautions (e.g. inspection of hazardous waste facilities, hazardous waste accumulation areas, satellite accumulation areas, and hazard materials warehouses where there is a risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals, pesticides, radioactive materials, and/or other pollutants). As a result, the environmental protection specialist must use protective clothing and/or gear.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
