Performs faculty duties in the Department of Education, in the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at AFIT.
Duties
The AFIT Registrar ensures compliance with DoD and Dept of Education accreditation and policy guidance. The primary purpose of this position is to administer policies and processes in the collection of all student academic related records.
Serves the lead role of course and final examination scheduling and classroom management, as well as maintenance of the academic calendars (term and suspense), student registration, grade reporting, and maintenance of the tools to monitor student progress toward graduation.
The AFIT Registrar provides leadership and oversight to all aspects of the office of the Registrar. Provides advice, assistance, and training to faculty, staff, students, administration and educational community per AFIT EN Operating Instructions (ENOI), AFIT policy letters, Air Force Operating Instructions, guidelines of external accrediting agencies, Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) and Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
Participates in Academic Review Boards and actively participates in external professional organizations/associations/work groups. Develops and publishes the official academic catalog, final exam schedule, technical studies schedule, quarterly section schedule, etc. Maintains Registrar web pages and publishes academic calendar.
Develops academic program and course records. Supports the creation and maintenance of course schedules, and graduation. Maintains academic program and course revisions. Activates/deactivates new academic programs and courses. Preserves archived academic programs and courses.
Maintains academic records including: grade changes, change of credit hours, awarding of degree, list of approved degree titles, awarding of grades, roster retention. Verifies enrollment for current students, former students, and student loan deferment.
Audits transcripts including: academic, doctoral, master's undergraduate, and certificates. Audits academic programs, specializations, majors, requirements, GPA rosters, grade reports, honors listings, etc. Supports, implements and maintains technical software required for academic business processes.
Analyzes applicant's previous academic record against AFIT admission criteria for the programs requested by prospective students. Makes decisions to admit, declare academically eligible/ineligible for admission, informs prospective students about final decisions.
Follows guidance to ensure student evaluations are completed IAW established policies and in a timely manner. Ensures student evaluations are disbursed to appropriate servicing Human Resource agency for all types of students.
Implements and coordinates onboarding and orientation for new students in coordination with academic leadership. Position attends meetings, prepares presentations and reports to all levels of leadership.
Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignment in consideration of skills, qualifications, and mission requirements. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Explains performance expectations to employees and provides regular feedback on strengths and weaknesses. Holds employees responsible for satisfactory completion of work assignments.

- Travel by military or commercial transportation to gather ideas for improving the curriculum, establish research contacts and agreements, conduct research, and present results of research may be required.
- Initial appointment is under Schedule A appointing authority, Excepted Appointment Not-to-Exceed 3 years.
- At the time of the expiration of the initial appointment an employee who adequately demonstrates professional competence can be extended in increments up to 3 years or for an indefinite period.
- An initial appointment can be allowed to expire for an employee who does not adequately demonstrate professional competence.
- The appointment cannot be converted to a permanent tenure in the competitive service.
- This job is being filled by an alternative hiring process and is not in the competitive civil service. This is an Administratively Determined position in the excepted service.

Term appointment may be extended to the maximum period allowed by law without further competition. NOTE: Current federal civilian employees may apply for this position and if selected, a break in service of at least 3 days may be required prior to appointment to this position.
Incumbent may be required to serve a one-year supervisory probation period.
Qualifications
Masters degree and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a Registrar's office, and school admissions function, to include some supervisory experience.
Significant expertise with Student Information Systems (experience in SAP's Student Lifecycle Management is preferred).
Experience managing a budget including preparing, reviewing, and defending budget requests.
Demonstrated ability to navigate complex organizations, including evidence of innovative thinking and problem solving.
History of working collaboratively and professionally with students, faculty, staff, peers, senior leaders, office staff, and other constituents to set and achieve institutional goals.
Strong technical and analytical skills, including the ability to review school processes and utilize data to recommend and/or implement improvements to university and government leadership chains.
Understanding of the student data steward role and knowledge of best practices across higher education regarding institutional data governance.
Possess the ability to communicate clearly and expertly (in English) in both verbal and written forms concerning academic, administrative, and technical subject matters.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
