This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: The incumbent provides life-saving medical treatment in emergency situations to include initial patient examination, prompt and efficient patient care, patient handling, and patient transport in accordance with protocols.
Duties
Perform patient triage and take/record patient's vital signs.
Uses skill and tact in communicating with patients with whom communication may be difficult due to the nature of their injury, trauma, and/or condition.
Communicates with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facility to obtain instructions regarding treatment and to arrange for reception of victims at medical treatment facilities.
Reports in clear, concise manner, orally or in writing, what injuries were identified and what patient care. was administered at the emergency scene and in transit.
Responds to on-site accidents and other emergencies involving injury and illnesses, sometimes encountering situations which may be life threatening.
Conducts a complete examination of the patient to determine the nature, extent, and seriousness of condition.
Administers basic and advanced life support care at emergency scene in accordance with established medical standards.
When not on emergency runs or patient transport missions, required to work in the Medical Treatment Facility emergency room to provide patient care within the scope of practice and the treatment protocols applicable in an emergency room.
Makes an independent preliminary assessment of the patient's condition and selects from a variety of prescribed protocols the one that is considered appropriate under the given circumstances.
Utilizes various tools and equipment, some of which are specialized emergency medical equipment such as backboard, EKG monitor and defibrillator, mechanical CPR device, etc.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do so.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons in accordance with Army Regulation 40-562, Chapters 3 and 4.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification within 12 months of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain military driving privileges within 6 months of employment.
- This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.

Minimum Qualifications for Paramedic:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes one year of specialized experience which includes responding to medical emergencies, accidents involving injury/illness; conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, initiating intravenous (IV) therapy, and/or operate emergency and patient transport vehicle. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Licensure/Certification: Licensure/Certification: Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMT-P) certification or certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians-Paramedic (NREMT-P).
