About the Position: Responsible for independently performing technical or quasi-professional duties in both technical services and public services, to include cataloging, acquisitions, processing, circulation, reference, customer service, outreach, and collection maintenance.
Position may be filled at either grade level. This recruitment provides promotion opportunity to the target grade GS-07 of the position without further competition.
Duties
Performs original descriptive cataloging and classification of Library materials in multiple languages.
Performs all cataloging in accordance with standard cataloging rules, bibliographic input standards, Army University Library System (AULS) procedures, and locally established policies.
Serves on the Army University Library System (AULS), Cataloging Working Group.
Uses Library of Congress and local classification schedules to verify or assign call numbers.
Processes library materials in accordance with local policies and procedures.
Compares items identified as added copies with bibliographic record in library automated system for descriptive details.
Acquires, receives, and processes library materials and supplies.
Participates in shelf maintenance projects under the direction of the lead technician.
Performs inventory of books, special collections, serials, and other materials using spreadsheets and other automated tools.
Maintains budgetary transactions for all vendor contracts, including the Library FEDLINK account.
Tracks and reports expenditures for all credit card purchases and submits information for inclusion in monthly and annual reports.
Fulfills access and circulation desk duties, providing a full range of circulation, reader and reference services, such as charging and discharging materials using the automated circulation system, registering customers, and answering questions.
Shelves books, monographs, periodicals, and audiovisual materials...
Explains and demonstrates the use of library's photocopiers, scanners, PCs, and handles simple malfunctions and problems.
Assists in public services outreach activities such as book displays, special events, and other programs.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

GS-05 Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting patrons in locating information resources utilizing an automated system.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04).
OR
Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).
GS-06 Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes accessing and/or retrieving library information resources utilizing an automated system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
OR
Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of

GS-07 Level:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes inputting, updating, and retrieving resource data within the library's cataloging system. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
