About the Position: As a Library Technician, you will be performing a variety of technical duties at the AISO Library, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Provide a variety of informative, technical, administrative, and clerical services in support of various library functions including cataloging, purchasing, vouchering, processing, fiscal management activities and other related tasks requiring a specialized knowledge and understanding of the Library and its mission.

Duties

Serves as library technician, performing a variety of technical duties at the Aiso Library, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Performs preliminary cataloging of library materials and on-line searching, editing and data input. Provides reference services to library customers. Checks out, checks in, places holds, and renews library materials for patrons. Uses various word processing software to prepare, format, modify, edit, and print a variety of letters, reports, memos, and other textual documents. Acquires, receives and processes library materials and supplies. Assists patrons with the use the librarys online resources.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Serve in rotation with other library employees during evening hours and/ or on Sunday shift. Work schedules may include working evenings and weekends on a rotating basis.
  • Buisness travel, TDY is up to 5% of the time.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing routine daily tasks at a library; answering library patron questions; and using automated systems to enter and retrieve information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service(GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsCustomer Service (Clerical/Technical)Oral Communication Physical Demands: The work is mostly sedentary; however, there are some periods of walking, climbing stairs, standing, and recurring activities such as bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, pushing loaded book trucks, or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items such as boxes of books, and archival and photographic materials (not more than 40 lb.). Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-04).

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
