THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander. JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this position is to perform duties involving the maintenance and repair of power ground and other support equipment used in aircraft servicing and repairs. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the Ground Support Equipment maintenance program, inventory control, and the identification and scheduling of preventive maintenance requirements for ground support equipment. Trouble-shoots, repairs; services; performs modifications on, and operates powered ground support equipment such as AC and DC power generators, air compressors, blowers, heaters, portable lighting units, deicers and non-powered equipment to include work stands, jacks, ramps, tow-bars, etc. Performs required preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment including repairing and replacing tires, lubrication, oil changes, replacing air, fuel and oil filters, checking fluid levels; and adjusting or replacing ignition parts, hoses, v-belts, and other items. Performs major system component overhaul/rebuild, repair/replacement and troubleshooting as needed, to include but not limited to, power-plant systems, brake systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, diesel and gas systems, air systems, starting systems, ignition systems and electrical systems in addition to the following components, power-plant, brake, fuel, steering, hydraulic, air, starting, ignition and electrical system. Troubleshoots deficiencies and repairs flight critical equipment including lifting devices, turbine powered generators, towing devices and auxiliary power units. WORKING CONDITIONS: Incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high-pressure air and fluids, and electrical current. Subject to the hazards of engine intake noise, fumes, exhaust heat and blast and rotating propellers. Incumbent work involves climbing, stooping, standing, bending, stretching and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Frequent climbing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, kneeling and arm movement is required. Some work is performed in awkward positions or in cramped areas. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally lifts heavier items using jacks, hoists, or other helpers.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the knowledge of mechanical maintenance work; ability to read and use technical manuals, illustrations, diagrams and schematics, and skill in the use of equipment and hand tools used in troubleshooting, testing and repairing equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following: WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS: Experience or training using common hand tools and making repetitive repairs. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. Experience demonstrating knowledge of safety regulations and practices. WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS: Experience or training demonstrating a basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic theory and the makeup and operation of the various individual systems and their interrelationships. Experience using a small variety of test and measurement devices. Experience removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components and accessories. Experience reading and interpreting technical manuals, blueprints, diagrams, and schematics. WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS: Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience demonstrating a working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience demonstrating a working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and components related to electrical power production equipment and aircraft arresting systems. Skill in troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, or rebuilding diesel or gasoline engines, generators, starter motors, carburetors, associated generating and distributing equipment and aircraft arresting systems. Ability and skill to read and apply technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings and to measure and work with close tolerances in the performance of their duties. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-4 through E-8 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
