THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel, assigned to the TASMG GSE section of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to ensure aircraft of the region are ready and available to support Federal and State missions. In addition, the AVCRAD performs National Maintenance Program (NMP) repair of rotary wing aircraft and components, limited depot airframe repair, aircraft painting, major airframe repair, depot-level component repair, and component repair and management, as directed by Army Materiel Command (AMC), and prioritized by the National Guard Bureau (NGB). NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: On a regular and recurring basis, leads a minimum of three powered support systems mechanics performing work at the AVCRAD. Takes care of assigned administrative duties such as checking employees leave and attendance record daily for accuracy, ensuring time is recorded and charged correctly for each employee, maintaining a production schedule, tracking status of parts usage and shortages, forwarding parts requests to production controllers, and coordinating with other shop entities to meet production deadlines. Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status, and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Ensures that safety and housekeeping rules are followed (e.g., assures that machine capacities are not exceeded and that tools are properly used). Monitors the work of assigned personnel, sets the pace, passes along assignments, and ensures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Works along with powered support systems personnel performing journeyman work as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside, is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, noise, irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes and from hard floors. Work may be dirty, oily, and greasy. There is the possibility of cuts, burns, bruises, sprains, skin irritation and the potential of more serious injury. Safety devices required for some requirements may be hot and uncomfortable. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work is accomplished in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May frequently require bending, stretching, and crouching while working on and around the items. Frequently lifts and carries item weighing up to 50 pounds while pulling and positioning parts, assemblies, and tools. Often uses hoists or lifting devices while lifting and positioning heavier items.

  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing parts, components, and accessories. Experience which provided working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic theory applying to powered support equipment and systems; and skill to replace, fit, install, and make adjustments. Experience which provided working knowledge of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships. Experience reading and interpreting parts lists, manufactures' repair manuals, diagrams, and electrical schematics. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Experience demonstrating the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. Experience demonstrating the ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of total system capabilities including the relationship between major mechanical, electrical, electronic, and pneumatic components. Knowledge is used to troubleshoot, locate malfunctions, and determine the extent of repairs that are required. Skill in use of a wide variety of diagnostic test equipment in conjunction with using and applying technical manual, specification, schematics, modifications. Ability and skills are also required to measure and work within close tolerances and use equipment or system test apparatus. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): E-5 through E-8 COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: ECMF: 15, 91; EMOS: 92A/F/Y, 94E/R UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
