Duties
This Engineering Technician position is located in Clinical Biomedical Engineering Service at the White River Junction VA location. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week. The primary purpose of this position is to provide medical equipment technical support for the WRJ staff in an effective and cost conscious manner and provides technical training for both the HTM staff and clinical staff.

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 04/16/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. For the GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07.The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
GS-7:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems.
Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated. OR,
Education: One full year of graduate education that is directly related to the work of the Engineering Technician position in the field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. NOTE: Transcripts (unofficial or official) must be submitted with your application materials. OR,
Combination: Equivalent combinations of related graduate education combined with specialized experience meets the specialized experience. Applicants may combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have a combination of specialized experience and education beyond the graduate level (as described above) (18 semester hours is considered to be one year of graduate level study). Combinations of experience and education must total at least 100% as outlined in OPM Qualifications policy.
GS-9:

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: Work involves periods of standing, walking, reaching, or lifting to accomplish various Healthcare Technology Management operations, assess new products, complete maintenance, and complete special projects. Commuting among the divisions of the White River Junction VA Healthcare System and affiliated institutions is occasionally required. Performance of the incumbent's duties can be physically demanding involving walking, sitting, some standing, and long periods of intense concentration. Lifting of objects between 10 and 40 pounds is common, and on occasion lifting of heavier objects is necessary. Trips to satellite outpatient clinics are sometimes necessary and will involve transportation via station vehicle or privately owned vehicle.
Work Environment: The work is usually in an office setting but involves visits to other VA locations for equipment evaluation and meetings. Protective clothing and safety equipment and observance of safety precautions are required when occasional visits to patient testing areas to view procedures or equipment.
